They’re back.

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to descend on Chincoteague Island for the 87th annual Pony Penning.

The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company sponsors the event which will see the Chincoteague ponies cross the Assateague Channel this Wednesday.

The following day they will be auctioned off to raise money for the firefighters.

Spectators will gather at the Pony Swim Lane and Memorial Park to watch the ponies to make the swim which will take three to five minutes.
