Sussex County Libraries Reap Financial Windfall

laurel.lib.de.us

The Sussex County libraries are about to get a financial windfall.

The money is coming from the county’s budget surplus with the independent libraries in Laurel and Seaford getting grants of $60-thousand.

Nine other communities are getting smaller amounts.

Wendy Roberts, director of the Laurel Public Library, told the Salisbury Daily Times that she was tickled to death at the news.

She said the first priority would be to fix a leaky roof among other things.

The council unanimously voted to give $350-thousand of the $854-thousand left over from the county’s $46.3 million 2012 budget to the independent library.

They are partially funded by county tax dollars.

Libraries in Delmar and Frankford will receive $38,500 each.

The other seven libraries will in Milford, Lewes , Selbyville, Rehoboth Beach, Millsboro, Georgetown and Bridgeville will get grants of between $12-thousand to $25-thousand.
