Suspicious Letter in Wicomico County Personnel File

Don Rush

A suspicious letter has shown up in the personnel file of a Wicomico County employee calling for a raise.

An independent audit calls the letter potentially fraudulent.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the document is dated November 19th, 2015 and made the case for a raise for an unnamed county employee by a department head.

The paper reports that the department head has denied any involvement in the letter.

The document is purported to be from the County’s Finance Director but it did not contain the county letterhead and it included what appeared to be computer generated signatures.

County Executive Bob Culver said he did authorize the raise adding that he had the authority to do so.

Culver said he could not comment on the letter since it was a personnel matter.

The author of the audit will report to the county council at its next meeting on July 5th.
