Suspect Slams Into Police Car in Salisbury and Flees

mug shot

Police are looking for Edwin Lamont Fletcher who is wanted after he allegedly slammed into a Maryland State Police car and injured a state trooper and a sheriff’s deputy in Salisbury.

The incident near Parker Place last night led to a lockdown of the Salisbury University campus as authorities searched for the 31-year old man from Crisfield.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that police used K-9 dogs and a State Police helicopter in addition to police on foot and in cars.

Authorities describe Fletcher as an African American male, 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds.

A task force composed of a number of state and local police agencies were working an undercover investigation…when they were trying to find Fletcher who was wanted on drug felony charges.

The suspect driving a Dodge Ram pickup with another person inside was surrounded by police who attempted to arrest him when he fled.

When the team surrounded the pickup truck, police say the driver - believed to be Fletcher - drove over a car, injuring the trooper inside.

Police say officers fired their weapons, but the driver fled and the truck was found abandoned. Police don't believe Fletcher or any officers were struck.

The trooper and an injured deputy were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
