Suit Against OC Police Officer for Excessive Force

Angela Byrd

BALTIMORE (AP) - A Virginia woman has accused an Ocean City police officer of slamming and pinning her to the ground while she was unarmed and pregnant.

The Daily Record of Baltimore reports Dalima Palmer filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Baltimore.

The lawsuit accuses Officer Michael Kirkland of using excessive force against Palmer while arresting her after responding to a beach disturbance in 2013. Palmer was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest, among other charges. She was given probation before judgment on the assault charge.

The complaint states that Kirkland kept Palmer pinned after she said she was pregnant.

The lawsuit also says another officer denied Palmer access to medical attention and only took her to a hospital after the Dumfries woman lost consciousness.

Ocean City's attorney Guy Ayres says the city hasn't been served with the lawsuit.
