FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A man who was shocked with a stun gun by a Fredericksburg police officer two years ago is seeking $5 million in a federal lawsuit against the department.
The Free Lance-Starreports that the Lantz Day says in the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court that the incident caused him "mental and physical anguish."
Police said Day was acting belligerent and threatened to hurt those who called police in downtown Fredericksburg in 2013. A video shows Day lying on the sidewalk and getting hit by the officer's stun gun when he got up and run. The sound of the gun went on for 42 seconds.
A police investigation determined the officer violated department policy and he was disciplined. A police spokeswoman said she couldn't comment on the lawsuit.
