SU Students React to Debate, Delaware Voter Registration Up

As many as a 100 million viewers were expected to watch the presidential debate between Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican rival Donald Trump.

A PPP poll found that 51 percent believe Clinton won the debate while 40 percent believed Trump bested the contest.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that its poll of debate watchers that was weighted toward Democrats found 62 percent thought Clinton beat Trump with 27 percent.

At the debate viewing party on the campus of Salisbury University Delmarva Public Radio’s Savanah Hatch found there were mixed reactions to the verbal slugfest.

When Delaware voters start casting their ballots in this year’s presidential election there may be more of the m than in 2012.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the number of registered voters has already surpassed the figure for the last presidential election with over 671-thousand voters.

The total during the last election cycle was around 634-thousand.

Delaware State election Commissioner Elaine Manlove said the state was preparing for what could be a high turnout this year.

Today is National Voter Registration Day – a nonpartisan effort to get people to sign up.

The News Journal reports that students at the University of Delaware have held the first of three UDecide Drive’s on campus.
