Students Gather After Noose Incident at UD

It was a packed community meeting at The Green on the campus of the University of Delaware yesterday after it was first reported that three nooses were found hanging outside a residence hall.

Those turned out to be paper lanterns from a previous event.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that a number of minority students talked about enduring racial insults while on campus.

Rick Deadwyler, director of the university’s government relations and a member of the UD alumni, said that given his experience he was concerned that when he saw the photo of the incident that the noose story was plausible.

University police said that the lanterns were determined to have been from Alumni Weekend in June.
