RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe says an energy developer has won a state permit to build an 80-megawatt solar array on Virginia's Eastern Shore.

McAuliffe's office says the project will quadruple the amount of solar energy currently in place in the state, and will be the largest in the Mid-Atlantic.

Community Energy is partnering with Amazon Web Services with a power purchase agreement for the energy. The power from the solar array in Accomack County will supply Amazon Web Services' facilities, including those in northern Virginia.

McAuliffe announced the project on Monday, calling it an example of his quest to build a new Virginia economy.
