Start Times for Indian River School District Could Be Pushed Back

Don Rush

Middle school students in the Indian River School District could push back start and dismissal times by 15 minutes in an effort to get double usage from the school buses.

School officials say that this has become necessary because of the growth of the population in the district.

Assistant Superintendent Mark Steele told WBOC that this was the only option because “We were really kinda bursting at the seams.”

Steele noted that last year the kindergarten went from half day to full day which meant that more students were using the school buses.

As for buying new buses Steele said the state denied their request and that the cost was too high.

A number of parents that WBOC talked with said this change could present a hardship in their schedules to get their children to school.
