Standardizing Procedures for Dispensing Opiates in Delaware

creative commons

Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn wants to come up with standard regulations for how doctors and other health care providers dispense opiate drugs.

It’s part of his effort to fight the abuse of painkillers as part of an effort to fight the rise of heroin use in the state.

In addition, the Wilmington News Journal reports that Delaware officials want regular state reviews of deaths that resulted from the use of heroin or other drugs.

They want to develop a best practices formula for detox treatment that would substitute drugs like suboxone and methadone.

The paper reports that officials noted nine people have been saved by the use of naloxone administered by police when people have been found to have experienced a drug overdose.
