Sounding Rocket Launches Student Projects into Space

Wallops Flight Facility

Four University projects were lifted off into space yesterday.

They were aboard a sounding rocket that was launched from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that they lifted off at 6:51 in the morning with the rocket reaching an altitude 107 miles above the ground.

The paper reports that the cargo included propulsion systems for small spacecraft and a small re-entry spacecraft.

The two other projects included new wire insulation and a deployable boom and solar blanket for small satellites.

The original launch had been set for late last week but was postponed because of rough seas that would have hampered recovery of the payload.
