Smoke Free Beaches in Ocean City?

Ocean City Beaches could soon become smoke free zones.

During a recent Town Council session Mayor Rick Meehan wondered whether it might be a good idea to just to ban smoking all together after a discussion of cigarette butt receptacles on the resorts shores.

The Mayor said he thought that this was the way the country was going.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Terry Steimer with the OC Surfrider Foundation with the purpose of keeping local beaches clean said that there are 100 cigarette receptacles located along the town’s 10-mile stretch of shore.

Almost two years ago the Town Council wound up with a ban on smoking in parks after considering it for the beaches and Boardwalk as well.

Four years ago Bethany Beach banned smoking on its beaches and Boardwalk from May 15th through September 15 except in designated areas.
