Sixty Foot Road: A Place Where Accidents Happen

Don Rush

Sixty Foot Road and Route 50 have not been a good combination.

Just last Sunday night 71 year old Margaret Anne Joiner of Rehoboth was killed in a car crash.

The Pittsville Fire Department told WBOC that’s the 14th accident at the intersection this year.

The most famous death at the intersection was that of Deputy States Attorney Sam Vincent in 2010 who was looking at running for State’s Attorney.

In an effort to fend off accidents a host of measures have been implemented ranging from rumble strips and flashing red lights to oversized stop lights and a sign which instructs a driver crossing Route 50 to look again.

One additional option may be requiring the use of headlights for cars using Route 50 from Salisbury to Route 90.
