The US Postal Service says it will keep rural post offices open but with shorter hours.
During the briefing by the Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe he said he was backing away from closing up to 37-hundred low revenue post offices citing strong community opposition.
He said that the staffing will be whittled down over the next two years.
He added that communities could opt for a village post office which would be run out of a local business or merge a local office with another nearby facility.
On the Maryland Eastern Shore opposition has centered around the proposal to shutdown the mail processing center in Easton.
In Delaware all of this means that 11 postal sites will have shorter hours.
The facilities in Bethel, Houston, Kenton, Port Penn, Yorkly, Viola and Woodside will see their daily hours cut to four.
Meanwhile, sites in Kirkwood, Little Creek and St. Georges will only be open six hours a day.
