Shooter Darion Aguilar Frequented Mall in Columbia

law enforcement

WASHINGTON (AP) - Maryland police say they've determined that a man who killed two people at a shopping mall and then shot himself "frequented" the mall and would hang out outside.

But Howard County police say they're not yet sure if the gunman, 19-year-old Darion Aguilar, had ever been inside the skate gear store where Saturday's rampage took place.

Police say Aguilar shot two employees of a store at the Mall in Columbia and then killed himself. Investigators are still seeking a motive.

The department also said on its Twitter account Tuesday that a journal recovered from Aguilar's home shows no insight into whether he knew either of the two victims.

They say they're not ready to release the journal yet, but that "Aguilar knew he was having mental health issues."
