Senator Tom Carper says he will support the Iran nuclear deal.
The Delaware Democrat called the agreement historic and said that it could keep Iran from getting nuclear weapons for years to come.
In addition, he said it provides an opportunity for that country to rebuild its economy and shed its status as a pariah state.
Carper said he still had doubts about the Tehran government which he said has to be watched closely.
The news came in an op-ed written for the Wilmington News Journal.
Carper’s vote brings the president one step closer to sustaining a veto even if congress rejects the agreement by September 17th.
