Senator Chris Coons Defends Ebola Tweet in Debate

official website

Senator Chris Coons was attacked during a debate yesterday by his Republican challenger Kevin Wade for the Democrat’s tweet saying that people should not freak out about the death of Thomas Duncan who died of Ebola.

The tweet was linked to an article in The New Republic entitled “Stop Freaking Out About America’s Single Ebola Death and Start Worrying About West Africa.”

Coons as chair of the Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs said he has spoken with the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as state and federal officials.

During the forum at the University of Delaware Coons said that the country did need to invest more in ensuring that there are the resources, training and equipment for the nation to effectively respond to the disease.

And, he charged that Wade was mischaracterizing his comments.
