Second State of City Address by Mayor Jake Day

Don Rush

It was a full house last night as Mayor Jake Day gave his second state of the city address on the campus of Salisbury University.

He told the audience filled with local dignitaries that the city had undertaken a series of initiatives that would transform the Cross Roads of Delmarva.

He said, “We have found our rhythm. We are unshakably focused on continuing progress on our goals.  We are implementing our vision and we are unwilling to compromise our values or succumb to distractions.”

He added, “It’s paying dividends.”

Day noted that the city had undertaken projects ranging from plans for Main Street and a biking trail to an urban greenway.

He also noted that the city unemployment rate was down to 4.6 percent and that the fiscal shape of the city was so good it had been upgraded to a AA bond rating.

Attendees ranged from City Council President Jack Heath and Wicomico County Council President John Cannon to Salisbury University President Janet Dudley-Eshbach who has announced that she will be retiring next year.
