BALTIMORE (AP) - A Baltimore judge will hear a motion by prosecutors to compel a second police officer to testify against his colleague on charges stemming from the death of Freddie Gray.
Baltimore Circuit Judge Barry Williams will hold the hearing Wednesday afternoon. Prosecutors filed a request to force Officer Garrett Miller to testify against Officer Edward Nero, whose trial is scheduled to begin May 10. Defense attorneys have not yet responded to the motion.
Maryland's highest court ruled last month that Officer William Porter, whose first trial ended in a mistrial, must testify against his colleagues while he awaits retrial.
Nero and Miller are among six officers charged in Gray's death. Each faces assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office charges.
Gray's death became a focal point in the national debate over police treatment of blacks.
