Search Resumed for Missing Boy Off Cape Charles Beach

CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) - A search resumed this morning for a 6-year-old boy who went missing off Cape Charles Beach.

The Coast Guard says the boy was last see swimming at the beach on Sunday.

The Coast Guard, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, Cape Charles police, beach lifeguards and bystanders searched for several hours without finding him, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard says its 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew and 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Cape Charles and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City were all searching along with VMRC response boat crews and divers.

Lifeguards and good samaritan jet skiers also helped with the search.

Officials say Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries was on shore with the missing boy's family.

The boy's grandmother tells officials their family is from New Jersey and was visiting relatives in Chesapeake.
