Search for Dover Police Chief Embroils Mayor in Complaints

Dover city council member Roy Sudler wants Mayor Robin Christiansen to step back as chair of the police chief search committee.

Sudler sent an email to the council president and other members pointing to recent remarks made by the mayor.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that during a January 9th meeting Christiansen said he was angered by a Facebook post made by a state representative asking why the appointment of Deputy Chief Marvin Malley as the next police chief has been delayed.

The mayor subsequently shared those posts with members of the Dover police department.

In addition, the paper reports that minutes of the meeting also showed that the mayor was angry about a press conference by Sudley and Reverend Rita Paige calling Malley to be appointed as the next police chief.

But Mayor Christiansen said he would not be stepping down adding that he had been entrusted with the responsibility to chair the search committee’s work.
