School Choice Option Closed for Prince Street Elementary

Parents in Salisbury who had been sending their children to A different school under the Public School Choice Program may have to start sending them back to the Prince Street Elementary School for the coming year.

The parents had been able to send their children to schools ranging from Charles H Chipman Elementary and Glen Avenue to North Salisbury Elementary and West Salisbury Elementary.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the program went into effect last year after the Prince Street School failed to meet certain goals under the No Child Left Behind Act for two years in a row.

But the School Choice option was been taken off the table after the US Department of Education gave Maryland a waiver from the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Parents or guardians could still provide transportation for their children to other schools.
