Sam Wilson Defends No Vote on NAACP Grant

sussexcountyde.gov

The decision by Sussex County Council members Sam Wilson and Vance Phillips not to provide $100 each in grant money to an NAACP Youth program has caused an uproar in the community.  The two members said they believed the phrase "for the Advancement of Colored People" signaled a discriminatory organization.  That drew a sharp rebuke last week from leaders of the NAACP which was instrumental in desegregating the Delaware schools sixty years ago. Delmarva Public Radio's Don Rush spoke with Wilson to get a sense of how he saw the controversy.

Don Rush is the News Director and Senior Producer of News and Public Affairs at Delmarva Public Media. An award-winning journalist, Don reports major local issues of the day, from sea level rise, to urban development, to the changing demographics of Delmarva.
