After 18 years as city administrator John Pick is leaving the city of Salisbury to become city manager in Northglenn, Colorado.

The 62-year old city official has overseen dramatic changes during those years with the population growing from 20-thousand to 30-thosuand since 1990.

During an interview with the Salisbury Daily TimesPick said that the town has attracted a lot of retirees in addition to serious growth for Salisbury University and the Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

He noted that there has been a major change in the local economy with a shift toward high tech-tech manufacturing but notes that the town has many small businesses rather than one dominant industry.

Cleaning up the Wicomico River has been a serious problem for the city with the failure of the $80 million upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant.

Pick said that the plant was a collective decision that only leaves the city the option of getting it done right now.

Pick said he believes the Mayor has done a good job in calling attention to the fact that the town needs to improve water quality.

But he noted that much of the problem still lies in Delaware.

As for the fact the town still has a 60 percent rental rate despite efforts to limit the number of unrelated people in a rental unit Pick said that he believed this would continue until more higher-income jobs become available.
