Sailboat Slams into Bay-Bridge Tunnel

cbbt

A 35-foot sailboat crashed into the Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel just after dawn this morning.

A bridge official says there was no damage done to the bridge.

The captain who has not been identified was the only person on aboard.

Chief Edward Spencer, the bridge-tunnel’s director of operations, told the Salisbury Daily Times that the captain was not injured.

Spencer says the boat’s sail broke and the captain was unable to start the engine.

The vessel struck the pilings of the southbound span as it exits the tunnel.
