ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Because his Democratic opponent has dropped out, Rep. Andy Harris is planning to hold town hall meetings in place of debates.

Kathy Szeliga, Harris' campaign manager, said Friday that with Democrat Wendy Rosen's exit, Harris would better serve his constituents by holding town hall meetings instead. She also notes there could be multiple write-in candidates.

Rosen abruptly announced Monday she was exiting the race. The announcement came on the same day the Maryland Democratic Party demanded she step aside, because the party had learned she voted in both Maryland and Florida in the 2006 general election and the 2008 presidential primaries.

Democrats are working on selecting a write-in candidate.

Maryland's 1st congressional district includes the Eastern Shore, as well as parts of Cecil, Harford, Baltimore and Carroll counties.
