Rehoboth Noise Ordinance Draws Criticism

Rehoboth Beach has a new noise ordinance.

But some are not happy with the law.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that there has been a series of emails from over 30 people that have been sent to city officials and the media.

They claim the resort’s gay community is being targeted.

In addition, he paper reports that the violations for open containers and other minor offenses were clustered around the areas that attract mostly gay residents and visitors.

There was one noise citation at a rental home over the Memorial Day weekend.

City Commissioner Kathy McGuiness told the News Journal that the town will need to address the issue.

City officials revised their noise ordinance in April. Included was a quiet time of 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Rehoboth's police chief says that he and his force have no animosity against the beach town's gay community and had not targeted them over the weekend.
