REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - Rehoboth Beach is preparing to add two public charging stations for electric vehicles under a one-year trial.
The Wilmington News Journal reports the Rehoboth Board of Commissioners voted in August to accept a state grant that would fund two charging stations downtown. The grant is part of the "Charging Up Delaware" initiative aimed at placing charging stations throughout the state.
Some, including Mayor Sam Cooper, argued the city shouldn't be responsible for charging someone's car, just as the city doesn't pump gas. Others said the program is beneficial to the public and the environment.
The University of Delaware will be responsible for the first year of maintenance. The grant covers the cost of the equipment and one year's electricity. After a one-year trial, Rehoboth can decide to discontinue the program.
