Rebecca T. Ruark, skipjack.org

For the eleventh time the Rebecca T. Ruark came in first during the 53rd annual Skipjack Race yesterday.

Captain Wade Murphy told the Salisbury Daily Times that it was a good luck day.

He said the wind was perfect and he picked up the $1-thousand prize.

The Ida Mae captained by John Price came in second pulling in $500 in prize money.

The Somerset came in third picking up the $500 prize.

Last year Murphy said there was some rough water.

And The Kathryn that year owned by Capt. Stoney Whitelock was damaged and did not race this year.

The Skipjacks are the last sail-powered work boats in North America.
