The Reach Academy for Girls will be closed at the end of the year.
Delaware Secretary of Education Mark Murphy said that there were too many problems academically to keep the school open.
So, last Thursday the Board of Education decided not to keep the charter school open.
Over the last week, the New Castle School and its supporters launched an effort to forestall the decision, including more than two dozen speakers who praised the school at a public hearing.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that Murphy said the school's test scores were at the bottom statewide and in some cases by a wide margin.
The decision hit the 468 students hard with Tara Allen, the school's leader telling the paper that it was a shame the board is closing it down.
