Reach Academy For Girls Could Close

Reach Academy for Girls

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A New Castle County charter school could close at the end of this academic year.

The state Department of Education's Charter School Accountability Committee voted Monday not to recommend the state renew the charter of Reach Academy for Girls. A public hearing will be held Wednesday. A final decision will be announced in the coming days by the state's education secretary.

The charter school accountability committee said in a statement that the academy hasn't met academic standards.

If the school's charter is not renewed it would have to close at the end of this academic year. The school, which opened in 2010, is the state's only all-girls charter school. It has approximately 450 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
