Retired teacher McKinley Albert Hayward has decided to run for District 1 on the Wicomico County Council next year.
The longtime local resident said he would focus his campaign on education, employment and housing.
In addition, he hopes to improve public schools and bring more high-tech jobs to the area.
In focusing on education, the Salisbury Daily Times reports that Hayward said he is concerned that neighboring Worcester County’s schools get more blue ribbon recognition than Wicomico County.
Hayward is the first announced candidate to replace council member Sheree Sample-Hughes who is running for one of the House of Delegates in Wicomico County.
