The Newark City Council Chambers were full last night as the public sounded off on the proposed data center and 248-megawatt power generating plant at the former Chrysler site.
The Newark Residents Against the Power plant handed over a petition containing more than 12-hundred signature opposing the project.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that resident Rebecca Arenson told the council that her neighbors were concerned for their health, property values and quality of life.
Meanwhile, union leaders told the council that the facility would provide 340 new jobs of which 290 would be fulltime as promised by Data Centers LLC.
And, the unions pledged to fight for the jobs.
The Wolf Technology Center includes a 900-thousand square-foot complex on 43 acres at the western corner of the former Chrysler property.
The company has signed a 75 year lease with the University of Delaware with on-site power generation that would be model for other businesses.
