Princess Anne Looking at Historic District

Hotel Restoration

n Princess Anne a former downtown restaurant could become a visitor’s center with a link to the 18th century Washington Hotel that is being restored next door.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the three-story Victorian-era structure was built as an addition to the hotel and…in recent years…has served as a restaurant and bar.

But it is not needed as part of the renovation.

So, Ian Fleming who is reopening the hotel as an inn and restaurant says a visitors center would help with tourism in the downtown area and the restored hotel.

He added this could be paid for with state and federal grants.

Currently, both buildings are owned by the Town of Princes Anne.

In October the city announced it would sell the building to Fleming.

The city paid just over $300-thousand for the building and used a $150-thousand Community Legacy grant to buy it with the rest coming from Fleming and a group of investors as a loan to the town.

Eventually ownership of the hotel will be turned over to Fleming.
