Possible Deadline Extension in Lord's Prayer Case

Both sides in the Sussex County prayer case have asked District Court Judge Leonard Stark to allow them until July 13th to reach a settlement after having missed in mid-June.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the judge has signaled he would grant their request.

Stark has also indicated he would take the side of the plaintiffs who objected to the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer by the council members at the beginning of each session.

The Council has replaced the Prayer with Psalm 23 both parties wrote to the judge.

But they noted that the two parties different on the constitutionality of its replacement.

Since the verse is drawn from the Old Testament it reflects both the Judaic and Christian traditions.
