White Marlin Open officials have determined that the winner of this year’s tournament was deceptive about breaking the rules.
Captain Philip Heasley and his crew took polygraph tests which concluded that they made deceitful responses.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that officials determined that they had not been truthful about whether they broke any rules.
Specifically, the paper reports that Heasley was found to have been deceitful when he answered whether he had any help catching their fish and if had passed the sea buoy before 4 a.m.
Heasley and his crew brought in a 76.5 pound white marlin becoming the sole winner of the grand prize of $2.8 million.
But officials withheld the money when suspicions were raised about whether they had violated the rules.
