Polls Open for Delaware Primary Election

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Polls are open in Delaware.

Tuesday's primary elections include a GOP contest for the right to take on incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Chris Coons, but the eyes of many political observers are on the state treasurer's race.

Ken Simpler and Sher Valenzuela are competing for the Republican nomination for treasurer. Plans for a Democratic primary were scratched last month when embattled incumbent Chip Flowers withdrew from the race, ceding the nomination to Sean Barney.

The Republican U.S. Senate primary pits Kevin Wade against Carl Smink.

Meanwhile, a third statewide contest pits Brenda Mayrack against Ken Matlusky for the Democratic primary for state auditor. The winner takes on incumbent Tom Wagner, the lone Republican holding statewide office in Delaware.

Delaware's elections commissioner says polls are open and no problems reported.
