A sobriety traffic stop turned violent on Johnson Road in Salisbury Tuesday morning when Maryland State Trooper Richard Keidel pulled over Harry Wyatt-Swift.
Police say after being asked to take a sobriety test Wyatt-Swift got back into his car and started to drive away while holding onto the trooper’s arm.
Authorities say Keidel shot him fearing for his life and hit the driver in the stomach and in the side of his face.
The police report that the suspect let go with the trooper falling to the roadside as the car sped off.
Wyatt-Swift was rushed to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center and then onto Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
The officer sustained injured but was released from PRMC.
