Pocomoke Clinic Closes, Patient Volume Too Low

While the Ocean Pines and Millsboro Atlantic ImmediCare clinics are meeting expectations, the Pocomoke City location has closed, based on below-average patient volumes.

The Pocomoke City Atlantic ImmediCare walk-in clinic, which is located within the Rite Aid on Linden Avenue, opened in 2009 and offered services 7-days-a-week.

Atlantic General Hospital leaders, opened the Pocomoke City location to address a need for additional primary care services on Delmarva, but hospital officials say the location did not have the patient volumes officials expected.

In a statement released today, Michael Franklin, President and CEO of Atlantic General Hospital, said other practices and primary care providers in Pocomoke, have extended their hours to accommodate patients, creating less of a need for a walk-in clinic in the area.

However, from the sizeable number of patients who commuted from the Eastern Shore of Virginia to the Pocomoke clinic, officials do see a need to expand health care access for those residents. In response, Atlantic General has expanded services at the Pocomoke Medical Center to include same-day care availability.
