Plastic Bag Recycling Sees Changes in Delaware

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware environmental officials are changing their recommendations for plastic bag recycling.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control previously advised putting bags in recycling bins for curbside pickup, but now residents are being urged to return bags to stores where collection containers are provided.

Officials say the plastic shopping bags clog machines at recycling centers, so returning the bags to recycling bins at stores is the best option. Officials also note that even carryout bags billed as biodegradable can only be broken down under specific conditions.
