Phosphorus Regs Could Be In Place Before Hogan Takes Office

Don Rush

The Maryland's proposed regulations to crackdown on phosphorus could be in place before Governor Martin O’Malley hands over the office to Republican Governor-elect Larry Hogan.

The regulations known as the phosphorus management tool were submitted for inclusion in the December 1st Maryland Register and for legislative review.

The General Assembly will have 45 days to review and comment before the Agriculture Department can implement them.

Hogan takes office on January 21st.

Governor O’Malley’s office has said that animal waste is the most significant source of phosphorus pollution endangering the Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore.
