Some three dozen protesters showed up at the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in Accomac, Virginia yesterday calling for the prosecution or the appointment of a special prosecutor in the case of two animal rights activists.
They are accused of taking a family’s pet Chihauhua from a Hopeton mobile home park and afterward telling the family that he pet had been euthanized.
In addition, the protesters presented a petition signed by more than 2-thousand people asking for the prosecution of the two.
But Commonwealth Attorney Gary Agar said that while he sympathized with the protesters, he said, that he was not able to make a decision based on what is expedient.
He said there is no indication that there was any intent to steal the animal but rather the worker’s intent was to gather up stray animals.
