Oyster Castles Are Coming to Ocean City Coastal Areas

The artificial reefs off the coast of Ocean City could be getting a new addition known as oyster castles.

These are palette contraptions that attract sea-dwelling creatures that would benefit the local ecosystem and fisheries.

The Ocean City Reef Foundation also wants to relocate a set of concrete pipes to a new site.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports the Foundation will be enlisting volunteer divers this summer to take 16 oyster castles out to shipwreck sites that serve as artificial reefs.

The Foundation was established after the state of Maryland did away with its program.
