WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware's attorney general says a group studying ways to update the state's charter schools law violated the state's open meetings law last year.
The News Journalreports that the opinion released Tuesday found the Charter School Working Group did not keep minutes or open meetings to the public.
The group created by Gov. Jack Markell included Markell staffers, education officials and teacher and charter school organization leaders. Its work helped create a law overhauling the charter system.
Markell's office argued the group did not create a formal work product and wasn't a public body. But the attorney general disagreed, saying the group frustrated citizens' rights to observe public officials' performance and monitor their decisions. However, the opinion does not call for any remediation.
