Open Carry Gun Ban Considered By Newark for City Buildings

creative commons

The city of Newark is looking at banning open carry for guns in city buildings as well as private buildings where city officials are carrying out business.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the city council will be debating a measure that would bar firearms, gun component, ammunition and explosives.

There would be an exception for law enforcement and other who carry weapons for their jobs.

Concealed guns would still be allowed.

There would be a fine of up to $500 and a possible year in jail.

There was a proposal for such a ban back in 2014 but it drew protests at public meetings.

At this moment city officials say they have not taken a position on the issue.
