O'Malley Gives Last State of the State Speech

official photo

The term-limited governor will give his eighth State of the State speech to the Maryland General Assembly early Thursday afternoon.

O'Malley typically outlines his priorities for the legislative session in the speech. This year, the Democratic governor is placing an emphasis on raising the state's minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 an hour by 2016. O'Malley also wants to index the minimum wage in 2017 to keep up with inflation.

The Democratic governor is proposing to increase the cash wage rate for tipped workers from 50 percent to 70 percent of the minimum wage.
