Old Indian River Bridge On Its Way Out

Now that the new Indian River Bridge has been built it’s now time for tear down the old one.

The project is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks.

Much of the concrete bridge decking on both spans already has been removed.

The concrete is expected to be crushed and used for construction of a parking lot at the Delaware Seashore State Park campground on the inlet’s south side.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the final phase involves taking out the four concrete piers sunk deep into the Indian River Inlet.

The plan is still subject to state approval.

The cost of taking down the two spans of the old bridge is expected to be more than $11.6 million.
