Ocean City Could Suffer If Visitor J-1 Program is Scrapped

Don Rush

Ocean City could be hit if the Trump administration decides to eliminate the J-1 Exchange Visitor program that provides around 4-thousand students to work in the resort during the summer.

Susan Jones, Director of Ocean City Hotel Motel Restaurant Association, told WBOC that there simply are not enough people to fill out of the seasonal workforce.

The Wall Street Journal reports that elimination of the program would be part of the president’s “Buy American, Hire American” executive order.

Jones told the television station that business owners are worried about the impact of reducing the number of foreign workers.

The resort’s chamber of commerce is urging businesses to contact them to explain how this might affect their operations.
