Surf fisherman will get to drive up on the beach in Ocean City starting this fall.
This week the resort’s town council and mayor approved the measure that would open up the shore line from 27th Street to 94th Street from November 1st to March 31st.
Town officials hope to attract fishermen who might otherwise go to Assateague Island and produce some extra revenue in the process.
There are some concerns.
Ocean City Police say they worry about oil spills dune damage and pedestrian safety.
Council member Dennis Dare noted that if oil spills had been a problem the practice would have been banned at other beaches.
